Cold and Flu Prevention Tips for Elderly Adults
October 7, 2016 | Preventive Care
We all are exposed to respiratory viruses every season and the vast majority of these viruses never affect us due to our immune systems being able to fight them off. But how can you keep your immune system healthy? Here are some tips:
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep
Sleep loss weakens the immune system, leaving us less protected against harmful bacteria we come in contact with
Stick to a healthy food regimen
For example, fruits, veggies and protein. This will continually nourish your body with the vitamins and nutrients you need to fight off colds
Keep your distance for those who are sick
…thus avoiding contact with airborne illnesses
Wash your hands consistently
Be mindful of what you touch
Get Your Flu shot
Lastly, don’t forget to get your flu shot this season! If you are a patient of Iora Primary Care, contact your care team to learn more about flu shot.
